Borough Market is probably one of London’s most touristy places and somehow, I still keep going back.
Whether I’m traveling or living my daily life, I’ve always preferred traditional markets rather than shopping malls. To me, a local market is more than just a place to buy things. It’s a tiny version of the city. From the smell of fresh food to the shouting of the vendors and people chatting while they walk. This is where you feel the real local life.
If you love exploring local markets as much as I do, you cannot miss Borough Market when you visit London.
I’ve visited many times, and I always find something new. It’s a place full of international food, interesting shops, and a great atmosphere. Even if you just grab a coffee and watch the people, it makes you want to stay a bit longer.
Today, I want to share my personal pocket list. I hope this helps you find your own favorite flavors in this busy and amazing market.
Wild Mushroom Risotto
The first time I passed this stall, I was immediately drawn in by two huge pots of steaming risotto. Before I even got close, the strong smell of wild mushrooms stopped me in my tracks. I didn’t hesitate, I had to try it.
The risotto is cooked fresh. It looks simple, but the taste has so much depth. The rich mushroom flavor and the warm, smooth texture are perfect for London’s chilly weather. Honestly, this dish changed my mind about British food. It’s not that there’s no good food here. You just need to take the time to find it.
Tips: The staff are very friendly and often offer free tastings. Try a bit before you buy!

Bread Ahead Bakery
Right next to the mushroom risotto is this famous doughnut shop. Every time I walk past, I need to buy some doughnuts. After having something savory like risotto, a sweet doughnut is the perfect dessert.
Unlike regular doughnuts, Bread Ahead fills them so much that the cream peaks out from the top. It looks beautiful and tastes even better. My personal favorite is Pistachio. The filling is rich but not too sweet, and the bread is so soft. Even with so many dessert choices in the market, I keep coming back to this one.
